Finding work from Her Aria

Built for a woman starting over with a thin work history, maybe a record, and no car. Everything below is a starting point — an address, a phone number, a cost, or a link to somebody else's application page.

This is a curated directory, not a job feed

We do not post live openings, we do not collect applications, and we do not place anyone in a job. What this page lists is employers and programs that hire or enroll continuously, each one linking to its own official application page. That is deliberate: a hand-checked list of doors that stay open ages far better than a feed of postings that expire.

Openings, wages, hours and hiring status change constantly and are specific to each store or warehouse. Search by ZIP code 91763 on each employer's own site, and call before you travel anywhere. Where we could not confirm a phone number, address, wage or requirement from the organization's own page, this page says so rather than guessing.

Narrow the list

Pick any combination. Tags describe only what the organization itself publishes, so an untagged card is not a "no" — it means we could not verify it.

(909) 941-6500 · Monday–Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm.

Arrive before 3:30 pm if you want to enroll the same day — the county's own desk reference lists open enrollment as walk-ins before 3:30 pm. The resource room is available to everyone: computers, phones, staff help, typing tests and job leads. Career advisors do resumes, interview prep, career assessments and assistance in funding training programs.

Ask specifically about On-the-Job Training. The county tells employers they may be reimbursed for up to 50% of a new hire's wage while that person trains — which is the single most useful thing to name to an employer who is nervous about limited work history.

2. Employers hiring continuously

Each card links to that company's own official careers site, checked as reachable. Most of them publish no wage, no minimum requirement and no store-level hiring status, so those fields say "not published" rather than a guess. Store and warehouse hiring is location-specific — search ZIP 91763 on each site.

Warehouse · hourly

Amazon

The one employer on this page that publishes, in its own words, that for hourly warehouse roles no resume is required and no interview is required. The online application takes about 20 minutes and you pick your preferred shift inside it.

Roles include fulfillment centre, sortation centre, delivery station, distribution centre, grocery warehouse, Amazon Air and XL warehouse (items over 50 pounds). After you apply: tax credit questionnaire and Form I-9, then an unpaid in-person pre-hire appointment — bring proper I-9 identification — then a contingent offer subject to background check and drug test. Amazon credits up to $110 toward safety shoes. Wages: not published.

Use the ZIP-code search. Amazon publishes no facility names, codes, cities or addresses on its hiring pages, and its location pages could not be read during research. Facility codes circulating on third-party logistics sites are not Amazon hiring sources, so this page does not state any. Search 91763 on Amazon's own site to see which sites are actually open, and sign up for job alerts.

Honest warning about shifts: Inland Empire warehouses sit in industrial areas, and shifts often start or end outside the bus service span (Omnitrans Route 61 runs roughly 4:04 am–11:30 pm; Route 66 roughly 4:21 am–11:00 pm). Check your specific shift against the actual route before you accept.

PeopleReady — the "Ontario" listing is not in Ontario

4. Training you can finish in under six months

Short, local, and priced. The cheapest credential-to-work route verified anywhere in this research is the Chaffey College CNA program, and the closest classroom is in Montclair itself.

One semester · $0 tuition

Chaffey College — Certified Nursing Assistant

A state-approved CNA certificate, one semester long, at the Fontana and Chino campuses. Classes typically run afternoon or evening; clinicals are mandatory and are on Saturdays at a local approved skilled nursing facility.

Tuition $0.00. Published fees: parking $30.00, maroon scrub top $15.50, black scrub pants $15.50, CNA kit $90.50, textbook $76.50, workbook $24.00, state exam testing fee $120.00, Livescan fingerprinting $50.00, health screening requirements $330.00 (varies with your insurance). Estimated total fees $752.00. You must pass the California state nursing assistant certification exam at the end.

If you have a record, read this first. The program requires Livescan fingerprinting and California CNA certification involves a Department of Public Health background review. Consider record clearing (section 6) before or alongside enrolling. Campuses: Fontana, 16855 Merrill Ave., Fontana 92335; Chino, 5897 College Park Ave., Chino 91710.

What Chaffey College actually costs

The enrollment fee is $46 per unit. That fee is waived if you qualify for the California College Promise Grant or Panther Promise through financial aid — which is how a short certificate ends up costing only materials and exam fees.

Panther Promise provides up to two years of free tuition to all first-time college students. Its own web page returned an error during research, so current information-session dates could not be verified — call the financial aid office. Other charges still apply: health fee $21 per fall and spring ($10.50 on Promise Grant A), transportation fee $8–$9, student representation fee $2, optional college services and technology fees $8 each, parking permit $30.

Honest correction

Medical Assistant is not a six-month program

Chaffey Adult School's Medical Assistant Certificate is described as a two-semester career training program — roughly a year. It is a real route to entry-level clinical work, but it does not belong on a list of things you can finish in under six months, and its fee could not be verified. No local provider with a published price and length was confirmed for forklift certification, phlebotomy, commercial driver training, or the California food handler card. Third-party training-school price claims are not sources, so none are repeated here.

Two useful specifics that were verified: Amazon states it provides powered industrial truck training to warehouse associates, so forklift skills can be earned on the job rather than bought. And for a security guard card, registration is issued by the state Bureau of Security and Investigative Services — (800) 952-5210 — where the baton permit application is $66 and the firearms permit application is $110, but the guard registration fee itself could not be verified. Food handler cards are typically arranged and often paid for by the hiring restaurant. Ask the AJCC before paying anyone.

5. Your rights with a record

The California Fair Chance Act took effect January 1, 2018. It is Government Code section 12952, part of the Fair Employment and Housing Act, and it is enforced by the California Civil Rights Department. Everything in this section comes from that department's own guidance. It is information, not legal advice, and nothing here promises any particular outcome.

Who it covers

Public and private employers with five or more employees, plus union hiring halls, labour contractors, temporary employment agencies and client employers. That last part matters: the warehouse staffing agencies in section 3 are covered.

Not covered: certain positions at health care facilities, farm labour contractors, positions with state criminal justice agencies, and any position where another law requires a background check or restricts employment based on criminal history. Even then, use of criminal history can still be challenged as discriminatory if it has an adverse impact on a protected group, and the employer has to show the practice is job-related and consistent with business necessity.

What an employer cannot ask before a conditional offer

  • Put conviction-history questions on the job application.
  • Ask about, or consider, your criminal history at all.
  • State on an application that a criminal history would disqualify you.
  • Consider, distribute or disseminate information about your referral to or participation in a pretrial or post-trial diversion program.

And some things an employer may never consider, at any stage: arrests not followed by a conviction; participation in completed diversion programs where the charges or conviction were dismissed, sealed or eradicated; and convictions that have been sealed, dismissed, expunged or statutorily eradicated.

When a background check may happen

After a job offer is made. Only then may the employer run a criminal history check. If an application asks you about convictions before that point, that itself is the violation.

If an offer is pulled because of your record

The employer has to follow a specific sequence, and each step is a chance for you.

  1. An individualized assessment. The employer must weigh the nature and gravity of the criminal history including the harm caused, the time that has passed since the conviction, and the nature of the job including its essential functions and environment. An employer cannot simply state it will not hire anyone convicted of a certain crime.
  2. Written preliminary notice. It must tell you in writing, identify the convictions that disqualify you, and — if it obtained a conviction history report — give you a copy of that report.
  3. At least five business days to respond. The employer must tell you that you may respond and give you no less than five business days. If you dispute the accuracy of the report and say so within that first five-day window, you get an additional five days.
  4. What you can submit. Evidence challenging the accuracy of the report; evidence of rehabilitation; and evidence of circumstances you believe matter about your life or the offence. The department expressly lists employment history, an explanation of the circumstances, and rehabilitation efforts such as education or training. In practice: a certificate of completion from section 4, a CNA certificate, an AJCC training record, or a letter from a case manager or house manager all fit.
  5. Final written notice. It must notify you in writing of any final disqualification, any internal procedure to challenge it, and your right to file a complaint with the Civil Rights Department.

One protection worth knowing: if a notice is sent in a format with no confirmation of receipt, such as untracked mail, a notice to a California address is deemed received five calendar days after it was deposited for delivery — so the clock is not silently run out on you.

All of this costs nothing. The Civil Rights Department publishes a Fair Chance Act fact sheet in English, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Tagalog and Vietnamese, sample forms, a complaint route, a discriminatory-ads report route, and an interactive guide. The deadline for filing a complaint could not be verified during research, so if this happens to you, ask when you call rather than assuming you have time.

6. Clearing a record

Dismissal, sealing and reduction are three different things, and free help exists for all of them. Nobody on this page can promise a court outcome — these are the routes and the phone numbers, drawn from the courts' own self-help guidance.

StepWhat it costsWhat to know
First: get your own RAP sheet $25 processing fee; you may be eligible for a fee waiver. A separate fingerprint rolling fee applies at the Live Scan site. Request your own California criminal history from the Department of Justice using Live Scan form BCIA 8016RR — write "Record Review" for both type and reason, then take it to any public Live Scan site, usually a police department or sheriff's office. Your conviction may already have been dismissed automatically under Penal Code 1203.425, and this is how you find out before paying anyone to file. If something on it is wrong, file the Claim of Alleged Inaccuracy or Incompleteness. Attorney General — record review
Misdemeanor dismissal No filing fee is stated on the courts' self-help page. Confirm with the courthouse. You can petition if you have no new cases pending and are not on probation or parole in any case. If you satisfied your probation terms, or got early termination, the court must grant the petition. If you did not, it is the court's discretion and you may attach documents showing it would serve the interests of justice. Still on probation? You must also ask for early termination under Penal Code 1203.3, for which there is no statewide form. Never given probation? Wait at least one year from conviction. Forms: CR-180, granted or denied on CR-181. Courts self-help — misdemeanors
Felony reduced under Proposition 47 Not stated on the courts' page. For convictions before November 2014: simple drug possession with no sales or transportation, or certain theft offences where the value was not more than $950 — commercial burglary, forgery, bad checks, grand theft, petty theft, receiving stolen property. Disqualifiers: a prior requiring sex offender registration, or a "super strike." The old November 22, 2022 deadline was removed effective October 8, 2023, so you can still ask. Filed under Penal Code 1170.18. Courts self-help — Prop 47
Sealing an arrest with no conviction Not stated on the courts' page. Under Penal Code 851.91, if you were arrested and no charges were filed, charges were dismissed, you completed diversion or deferred entry of judgment and charges were dismissed, or you were found not guilty. Sealing removes the records from public view, but some government agencies, including law enforcement, can still see them, and you must still disclose the arrest for public office, peace officer employment, state or local licences, and Lottery Commission contracts. Forms: CR-409 with CR-409-INFO, granted on CR-410, translated into Chinese, Korean, Spanish and Vietnamese. Courts self-help — arrest with no conviction

A Certificate of Rehabilitation has its own bar: free from custody at least seven years, a California resident for five consecutive years before filing, not on probation or parole, passing a background check, and filing in your county of residence. It releases you from most disabilities flowing from the conviction, but it does not remove court records from public inspection and may not stop the conviction being used as a prior later. Ask the public defender's unit whether it fits your case before you count on it.

Three lines, all ending in Montclair

Line 480 — West Covina to Pomona to Montclair Transit Center. Published destinations include Pomona Adult and Career Education, Western University of Health Sciences, Civic Center Plaza, Mt. SAC, Cal Poly Pomona and Montclair Place, plus grocery employers El Super, Super King Market and Mother's Nutritional Center.

Line 492 — El Monte Station to Arcadia to Montclair Transit Center via Arrow Highway. Its published destinations read like an easy-apply job list: Target, Sam's Club, Aldi, Albertsons, Stater Bros, Smart & Final, Superior Grocers, Grocery Outlet and El Super.

Silver Streak — bus rapid transit from Montclair to Downtown Los Angeles, serving Pomona Transit Center, Cal Poly Pomona, Plaza West Covina and the downtown LA medical campuses. This is the line to the downtown legal aid clinics.

Fares: we could not verify Foothill Transit's current single-ride and day-pass prices from a Foothill Transit page during research — the fares URL redirected. Check the fare page or ask the driver before you budget a day. Lines 188 and 197 could not be verified either.

Half price with an EBT card

Metrolink's San Bernardino Line runs from Montclair to Los Angeles and San Bernardino, and California EBT cardholders get 50% off through the low-income fare discount. That discount is tied to having CalFresh or EBT already, which is one more reason the benefits application comes first — see the benefits section on the resources page.

The honest warning about warehouse work without a car

Amazon and most Inland Empire fulfillment centres run shifts that start or end outside the verified bus service spans — Route 61 roughly 4:04 am to 11:30 pm, Route 66 roughly 4:21 am to 11:00 pm — and the facilities themselves sit in industrial areas whose bus access we could not verify at all. A warehouse job you cannot physically reach at 4:30 am is not a job.

Retail, grocery, food service and clinic-adjacent work on the Holt Blvd, Foothill Blvd, Arrow Highway and Montclair Place corridors is far more realistic without a car. Start there, and treat a warehouse shift as something to take on once you have a ride, a carpool, or a car.

A practical order of operations

None of this is a guarantee of a job, an income, or a legal result. It is the sequence that wastes the least time and money.

Apply for benefits first

CalWORKs, CalFresh and Medi-Cal, on BenefitsCal or in person. CalWORKs enrollment is the gate that unlocks Stage 1 childcare, the Chaffey CalWORKs program and work study, and EBT is what unlocks the Metrolink discount. Where to apply

Get your RAP sheet

$25, fee waiver may be available. You need to know exactly what an employer will see — and whether a conviction was already dismissed automatically. Then call the public defender's Post-Conviction Unit on (909) 387-7050.

Walk into the AJCC

9650 9th Street, Suite A, Rancho Cucamonga, before 3:30 pm. Free resource room, job leads, and a career advisor who can talk to an employer about On-the-Job Training reimbursement.

Apply to five employers in one sitting

Use the official links in section 2, plus Honest Jobs. No resume is needed for Amazon hourly roles. Then enroll at Chaffey for the Promise Grant and ask about CNA.
